Japan's participation in the Third Special Envoys and Representatives on Sudan Forum in Nairobi, Kenya

On Wednesday, 21 July, Mr. NAKAHARA Takanobu, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan in Sudan, represented Japan at the one-day Third Special Envoys and Representatives on Sudan Forum held in Nairobi, Kenya. The forum was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Following previous forums convened in Addis Ababa in March 2025 and Djibouti in November 2025, this third forum provided a vital platform for special envoys and representatives on Sudan to exchange updates and perspectives on the evolving situation in Sudan, as well as to strengthen international coordination among ongoing mediation efforts.
In his remarks during the forum, Mr. Nakahara stated: “we are deeply concerned about the severe humanitarian crisis and security situation, given that there is no prospect of an immediate improvement in the military situation.”
The Chargé d’Affaires added: “Japan has consistently worked towards peace and stability in Sudan through initiatives such as support for meetings organized by IGAD. Going forward, through such initiatives, we intend to continue working in collaboration with relevant countries, including like-minded countries, to improve the situation.”
The forum was attended by envoys and representatives from the Quintet (African Union, the United Nations, League of Arab States, IGAD, and European Union), alongside representatives from Germany, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and a number of NGOs.
Participants collectively reaffirmed that Sudan’s path to peace must remain Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led, supported by unified and coordinated international efforts toward achieving lasting peace and stability.
