Message of Embassy of Japan in Sudan regarding situation concerning El Obeid
2026/6/25
Announced on ـ2026 June 24
The Embassy of Japan in Sudan is deeply concerned by reports of the escalation of military mobilization by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied forces in and around El Obeid in Sudan, which significantly increases the risk of violence against civilians and infrastructure, and further escalation of the conflict in El Obeid, the Kordofan region, and beyond.
El Obeid must not become another El Fasher. We join our partners in calling upon RSF and their allied forces to immediately cease any actions that put innocent lives at risk, obstruct humanitarian space, or contribute to further atrocities and suffering.
Japan, together with the countries concerned, has been urging the relevant parties concerned in Sudan to respect human rights, de-escalate tensions, commit to an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and improve access to humanitarian assistance. Japan is committed to continuing those efforts to improve the situation in Sudan.
