The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Sudan met with UN agencies, Sudanese officials, and diplomatic missions, and signed an agreement with UNESCO, during his visit to Port Sudan.

Mr. NAKAHARA Takanobu, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Sudan, visited Port Sudan from February 2nd to February 4th .
 
During his visit, a joint meeting was held with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), bringing together several UN agencies operating in Sudan. Participants exchanged views on new projects aimed at providing humanitarian assistance and supporting affected communities. The participating organizations included the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UN-Habitat, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UN Women, World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
 

Mr. Nakahara also met with representatives of diplomatic missions to Sudan, where discussions focused on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, alongside the role of the international community in supporting the Sudanese people.
 
The delegation also held meetings with Sudanese officials, during which both sides exchanged views on the latest developments in Sudan and the ways in which the Japanese government provides support to Sudanese People through humanitarian assistance.
 
In a related development, the Government of Japan and UNESCO signed an agreement on 3 February to implement the project “Humanitarian Support through Job Creation for Youth and Communities Affected by Crises in Sudan.” The project aims to support youth employment, improve livelihoods, and contribute to community resilience in crisis-affected areas.
 
Japan reaffirms its commitment to multilateral cooperation to support humanitarian response and development efforts for the people of Sudan.
