2017/2/7
On 4th February, 2017, four Sudanese wrestlers have departed to Japan to have an intensive Olympic wrestling training at Nippon Science Sport University in Yokohama starting from 6th February till 28th. This visit takes place following the previous visit of five Sudanese wrestlers (three of them are invited this time again) in 2015, in cooperation with Dal Motors. From 1st March till 3rd, the four wrestlers will pay a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Japan Sports Agency and go to some tourist places to get a sense of Japanese culture.
The dispatch of the four wrestlers to Japan was decided within the context of the joint cooperation between Japan and Sudan in the field of sports, in particular wrestling. This joint cooperation started in August, 2014 with the agreement among the Embassy of Japan in Sudan, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports and Sudan Olympic Committee aiming to further promote Japan-Sudan sport exchanges. Upon the initiative, Mr. Kosuke Sunagawa, a Japanese wrestler called “SUNA” was dispatched by the Government of Japan to Sudan on November, 2014 and February, 2015 respectively in order to train a number of prominent Sudanese Nuba wrestlers in the Olympic wrestling. Following that, five Sudanese wrestlers were invited to Japan for an intensive training in cooperation with one of the most prominent universities in the field of sports “Nippon Science Sport University”.
As Japan will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, the Government of Japan with the efforts of the Sudanese counterparts is committed to help realizing the dream of Sudan’s participation in the “Tokyo 2020”.
