Press Release: Japan Hands over the Water Supply Plant in Allah Kareem Village,Um Ruwaba locality, North Kordofan State.

On 14th February 2017, H.E. Mr. Hideki Ito, Ambassador of Japan to Sudan, Mr. Yasin Dafallah, Commissioner of Al-Rahad Locality and
Mr. Alsary Adam, Head of Popular Committee of Allah Kareem Village attended the handover ceremony for “The Project for construction of water supply plant Allah Kareem Village in Umrawaba Locality, Northern Kordofan State” held at Allah Kareem Village, in order to celebrate the completion of constructed Water Supply Plant, 4 drinking water points for animals and drinking water source for humans.
This project was funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP)*”, and jointly implemented by the Popular Committee of Allah Kareem Village at a cost of USD 71,420. Allah Kareem Village, with a total population of 10,000, had suffered from severe shortage in potable water. It had only one borehole on the outskirt of the village and people came from all around the village to get water manually many times every day. This was considered extremely hard and dangerous chores especially for young boys who were the main carriers of water. With the water plant contributed by Japan, the villagers can now have access to not only water nearer to the village, but also with much better quality in its hygienic condition and the water disbursement capacity. Many of the families in the village no longer experience waterborne diseases caused by drinking water.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Ito emphasized the importance of water sector for its role to support social development in Sudan, and Japan’s sincere commitment to improve water security in Sudan. Both Mr. Yasin Dafallah, Commissioner of Al-Rahad and Mr. Alsary Adam, Head of Popular Committee expressed their gratitude for Japan’s contribution to improve water security in Allah Kareem village and highly appreciated the visit of the Japanese Ambassador.
Japan has made significant contributions to socio-economic development of Sudan, and of North Kordofan State in particular. In North Kordofan State, the Government of Japan has been providing development assistance in various sectors such as Education, Health and Water. In the previous years through the scheme of GGP, Japan has provided the grant assistance for the construction of four primary schools, one health care center, one chicken farm and three water plants. The project handed over today is another addition to the assistance to North Kordofan State provided by Japan.
