Press Release: Japanese Drum Performance (Taiko) at Sajana Youth Center

The Embassy of Japan co-hosted a cultural event “Japanese Drum Performance” with Sajana Youth Centre on the 10th of December, which was attended by H.E. Mr. Hideki Ito, Ambassador of Japan in Sudan, and H.E. Mr. Alyasa’ Siddig, Minister of Youth and Sport of Khartoum State. The event was held for the purpose of introducing Japanese culture to Sudanese people.
 
H.E. Mr. Hideki Ito, the Ambassador of Japan to Sudan, made a speech at the beginning of the event. He briefly explained the characteristic of Taiko (Japanese Drum) and said that each country has its own unique tradition which makes it wonderful.
 
The event had two parts. In the first part, a Japanese Drum Group “Miyabi” played powerful and energetic Taiko, which was followed by Sudanese drum performance and  collaboration between Japanese and Sudanese drums, which create great harmony and attracted the audience. After the interval, the Japanese drum group went on to the second part, in which one of the members of the group explained the history of Taiko and the audience played and enjoyed it by themselves.
