2015/8/23
On the 17th of August, H.E. Mr. Hideki Ito, Ambassador of Japan to Sudan, alongside H.E Mr. Elsiddiq Eltayeb Elbukhari, White Nile State Minister of Education, and Mr. Mua’ala Mohamed Ahmed Al-Gitaina Locality Commissioner, attended the handover ceremony for “The Project for Construction of Primary School Al-Nizaiha Village, Al-Gitaina Locality, White Nile State”, held at the said village. The project has been implemented by NIDAA Organization.
The project was funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP)*”. The project aimed to improve the educational environment for the currently enrolled 300 students, by providing them with 10 classrooms, 4 offices, latrines and a fence with the aim of also boosting enrollment in this area, and lowering dropout rates.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Ito, appreciated Nizaiha Village’s efforts and emphasized the importance of education for its role in supporting the country’s development and in order for the children to realize their true potential, and Japan’s sincere commitment to cooperate in the area of education in Sudan, pointing out that it was education and hard work that led to the rapid economic development of Japan after the devastation of the Second World War.
H.E. Mr. Elsiddiq Eltayeb Elbukhari, and Mr. Mua’ala Mohamed Ahmed, expressed their gratitude for Japan’s contribution in improving the educational environment. Previously the village had faced all the issues attributed to not having a fixed school building and the troubles and dangers caused by abundant rainfall. Japan took this opportunity to tackle this continual problem by providing them with the sturdy construction of the primary school in Al-Nizaiha.
*Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP) is designed particularly to support the community-level socio-economic projects that address Basic Human Needs (BHN) such as access to health, water and sanitation, education, skills development, and other means to maximize opportunities for individuals. GGP’s approach reflects the Government of Japan’s strong commitment to uphold the notion of ‘Human Security’ as basic human rights for all. All individuals, in particular vulnerable people, are entitled to freedom from fear and freedom from want, with an equal opportunity to enjoy all their rights and fully develop their human potential. By directly supporting the projects implemented by grassroots organizations, GGP encourages bottom-up efforts by the local communities, and realizes their empowerment.
