Japanese Grant (of USD 2.72 M) for “Food Assistance Programme”

Notes for Food Assistance Program were signed and exchanged on 12th of July 2021 at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning between H.E. Mr. Takashi HATTORI, the Ambassador of Japan to the Sudan and H.E. Dr. Gibril Ibrahim Mohamed, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
Upon request from Sudan, Japan has decided to provide Sudan with this Food Assistance Programme, so that Sudan could fulfill its responsibility and respond to the food demand of its people. This assistance, totaling 2.72 million USD, aims to contribute to the efforts of the Sudanese Government to strengthen its food security through the provision of Japanese Rice to Sudan.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador HATTORI said, “Many countries are casting their expectant eyes on Sudan, in hope that it will become an agriculture giant in the region, since it is endowed with especially spacious and fertile land and rich water resources. Japan would like to lend a helping hand to Sudan to boost its agricultural production by taking full advantage of its expertise and cooperation.”
On the other hand, H.E. Dr. Gibril Ibrahim Mohamed expressed his deep appreciation for the Japanese grant, stressing that Japan has implemented various projects in many sectors such as health, water and waste management. He reaffirmed the desire of Sudan to take full advantage of Japan’s expertise in agricultural production and to create a strong partnership between the two countries in the area of food production.
